After School Programs For Homeschoolers
Many schools run extracurricular activities after hours. Extra learning, hobbies or physical exercise is great for children. So what can you do if you homeschool?
Well, first of all you don't need the school's organized programs in order to keep your children occupied with healthy activities. There are usually many community programs available. You can also create programs based on your own knowledge, or you can go to the internet or library to find information.
A great way to determine what to do, is to first figure out what you want your child involved in. Do you want them to focus on their personal strengths and interests? Do you want them to get some exercise? Maybe you want to give them more opportunities to interact with other children. Or maybe you want to try and combine all three into one activity.
Community programs offer great ways to combine all three areas. There usually are physical programs such as swimming lessons or sports teams. If you are looking to help encourage a particular interest, there are also classes on art, photography and many other hobbies. All of these programs involve social interaction with others.
If you do not have a large enough community or prefer not to utilize these types of programs, there are still many options available to you. How about organizing informal sports with other children in the neighborhood. Maybe you could teach your children some of your cooking skills, or computer skills. Perhaps a relative or friend is an expert at something that would be of interest. Ask them to share some of their expertise with your children.
The library or the internet contains more information than you will have time for in your entire life. Investigate ideas or interests there and create a mini course for your kids. Maybe you can turn it into a project for them to do themselves.
Don't forget about other activities such as community service or business/money making skills. You can encourage your children to pursue activities in these areas as well.
You don't need to keep your children busy every waking hour of the day. They need breathing space as much as you do. However, children who are pursuing interests and dreams, who stay physically active and learn to become 'other people' minded through some charitable work, will probably be much happier and successful in life than those who become video game or TV couch potatoes.
After School Programs can provide the extra thing your child is searching for. Motivated children usually are more successful (and stay out of trouble). Homeschoolers have lots of resources available to keep children educated, entertained and fit after school.
